Chapel Bookings
From its elevated position overlooking Lake Monger in Leederville, the
Chapel of St Michael the Archangel offers the ambience of a by-gone era with
the combination of stone, marble and stained glass complemented by its sweeping
approach amidst manicured lawns and spectacular gardens.
Situated within the grounds of the Catholic Education Centre, the Chapel of St
Michael the Archangel was built in 1938 in the neo-Gothic architectural style
to accommodate the seating of seventy nuns. Today it is the focus of the
liturgical life for the personnel at the Catholic Education Office and has
become a very popular venue for weddings.
The magnificent grounds of the Catholic Education Centre are an essential part
of the heritage value of the complex. The existing gardens to the south of the
complex are one of a handful of largely intact Edwardian gardens in Perth.
The Chapel is also quite often the venue for choral performances and concerts
such as the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. With the aesthetics and
acoustics the Chapel makes a marvellous choral venue.

WEDDINGS
The Chapel is available for weddings on most weekends, except Good Friday, Easter, Public Holidays and the ten-day Christmas and New Year break. If you
would like to view the Chapel please contact the Chapel Booking Clerk on 6380 5200. Viewing times can only be arranged between the office hours of
8.00am-5.30pm.
Rehearsals in the Chapel can also be conducted Monday to Thursday between the
hours of 9.00am and 5.30pm. There is no extra charge incurred, however,
rehearsal times must be booked in advance with the Chapel Booking Clerk. This
applies to singers, readers and decorators as well.
Weddings and Photography
A wedding cannot commence before 10.30am or after 4.00pm and each booking is
strictly for a duration of two hours. By prior arrangement, the grounds can also be booked for photographs, following
your ceremony in the Chapel. However, it is important to note that the time
allocated for photographs is included in the two hour booking. It is also important to note that all ceremonies must commence at the start of
the booked time to ensure a fair and smooth transition between ceremonies
(regardless of whether you plan to take photographs in the grounds or not). The use of confetti, rose petals, bubbles and rice is not permitted, either in
the Chapel or on the grounds, and it would be most appreciated if this could be
brought to the attention of those attending the ceremony.

CHAPEL BOOKINGS
Your Chapel booking will be confirmed upon receipt of the completed application
form and booking fee. This form can be obtained from the Chapel Booking Clerk.
Details of the booking fee involved are outlined on the application form. In order for a wedding booking to be accepted, either the bride or groom must
be Catholic.
As there is no resident priest associated with the Chapel, necessary
arrangements will need to be made between the couple and a Celebrant. The
Celebrant must have the approval of the Catholic Archbishop of Perth to conduct
wedding services in the Perth Archdiocese and will need to indicate on the
application form whether the service will be a Nuptial Mass or Wedding Ceremony. An appropriate offering for the services of the Celebrant should be made directly to the Celebrant. This offering is not included in the Chapel fee.
The bridal couple is responsible for the organisation of all their servers, organist, etc. Candles are provided for the altar. A limited number
of vases are available for use and, if required, the Chapel
Booking Clerk can put you in contact with an organist who can play on the day.
The Chapel fee included two large arrangements of fresh flowers for the altar only, supplied and organised by our florist, which will remain in the Chapel after the ceremony.
A representative from the office will be present on the day. As the Chapel does
not have a resident sacristan, it is imperative it be left clean and tidy, as
there may be numerous ceremonies on the one day. Therefore, at the conclusion
of the ceremony, it would be appreciated if you could organise to have all
decorations removed.
For general Chapel enquiries please contact the Property Officer on (08) 6380 5200
